FUN FRIDAY – TAKE SOME PICTURES, HAVE FUN, LEARN A VERSE OR TWO
Most people have instant access to a camera these days. Even kids have iTouches or point and shoot digital cameras.
Take advantage of that and have some fun.
1. Have your child print out (either by hand on on the computer) the verse he is learning . Choose a font size that enables the verse to fit on half an index card.
2. Challenge your child to think of a picture that illustrates the verse. (Be willing to drive or walk a short distance with her so she can shoot the picture.)
3. Download the picture on your computer as an illustration for the verse. (Or if doing this by hand – download the picture and then cut and paste next to the handwritten verse.)
4. Glue onto index cards (for durability) and keep in a “verse basket” or other container. Periodically take out the verses and review.
Some thoughts -
The child (or teen) will need to think through the meaning of the verse in order to think of an appropriate illustration.
Taking the time to write out the verse, take the picture, download the picture, etc., will help the verse stick in the child’s (teen’s) mind.
Even a funny illustration that’s a play on words will help the child/teen remember the verse. For instance, if she comes up with filling a pie crust with pie filling for something about Philippi or a picture of himself falling for “falling short” of the glory of God – that’s great! In fact, sometimes these play on words illustrations help the child remember more than a “just right” illustration.
If you’re a leader – this could be a group project.
Have fun!
